D’Andre Swift was born on November 18, 1996 in Fort Lauderdale, Florida. He attended Booker T. Washington High School and played football for the school’s varsity team as a running back and wide receiver. In his junior season, he rushed for 1,542 yards and 19 touchdowns and caught 56 passes for 749 yards and six scores. He was named to the All-Broward County First-Team as both a running back and wide receiver.
Swift went on to play college football at the University of Texas at Austin where he became one of the most versatile players in program history. Looking back, it is hard to believe that D’Andre Swift was ever a high school basketball star. After averaging more than 20 points and five rebounds as a junior and senior, Swift committed to the University of Nevada, Las Vegas (UNLV) in 2017.
Swift made an immediate impact at UNLV, starting all 34 games he played in his freshman season. He averaged 12.6 points, 5.4 rebounds, 1.5 steals and 1.2 assists per game for the Rebels, earning First Team All-Mountain West Conference honors and being named to the Freshman All-American team by Sports Illustrated.
In his sophomore year, Swift led UNLV to their first conference title since 1988. He averaged 18.7 points, 7 rebounds and 2 assists per game en route to unanimous First Team All-MWC honors. He was also named the conference’s Player of the Year by both ESPN and the Associated Press.
