Jennifer Lynn “J.Lo” Lopez (born July 24, 1969) is a singer, actress, and dancer from the United States. She debuted as a Fly Girl dancer on In Living Color in 1991 and was a regular until 1993 when she chose to pursue an acting career. She became the first Latin actress to earn more than $1 million for a film for her first main part in the 1997 Selena biopic of the same name. She went on to feature in Anaconda (1997) and Out of Sight (1998), becoming Hollywood’s highest-paid Latin actress.
Lopez debuted in the music business with her debut studio album On the 6 (1999), which helped kickstart the Latin pop genre in American music, and then acted in the psychological horror film The Cell (2000). In 2001, she became the first woman to have a number-one album and film in the same week with the simultaneous release of her second studio album J.Lo and her romantic comedy The Wedding Planner. J to the L–O! The Remixes, her 2002 release, became the first remix album in history to debut at the top of the US Billboard 200. She released her third studio album, This Is Me… Then, later that year, and appeared in the film Maid in Manhattan.
Childhood
Lopez was born on July 24, 1969, in New York City and grew up in the Bronx’s Castle Hill area.
David López and Guadalupe Rodrguez, her parents, were born in Puerto Rico and moved to the United States as children. David worked as a computer technician at Guardian Insurance Company after serving in the army. Guadalupe was a stay-at-home mom for the first 10 years of Lopez’s childhood before going on to work as a Tupperware salesperson and kindergarten and gym teacher. After 33 years of marriage, they divorced in the 1990s.
Lopez is the middle child among three siblings, with an elder sister, Leslie, and a younger sister, Lynda. The three of them shared a bedroom. Lopez’s childhood has been described as “tight.” She was reared in a Catholic home, attended Mass every Sunday, and had a Catholic education at Holy Family School and Preston High School for girls. Lopez raced track on a national level, gymnastics, and was a member of the softball team in high school. She performed in school musicals and had a starring part in a Godspell performance.
There was “a lot of music” in the traditional Puerto Rican home, and Lopez and her sisters were encouraged to sing, dance, and write plays for family celebrations. West Side Story left an indelible influence on the young Lopez, who aspired to be an entertainer from a young age. She began taking ballet classes at Ballet Hispánico on the Upper West Side when she was five years old. According to the source, the multi-hyphenate adores her 8.5-carat green diamond engagement ring and “can’t stop staring at it.” The singer initially showed off the ring in an exclusive newsletter video, saying, “You’re wonderful,” as she showed it out.
“It’s extremely adorable to see how delighted she is,” the person said. “Ben makes her very happy.”The pair also intended to keep the engagement “secret for a few days” before going public with the news, according to the insider. Lopez was seen wearing what seemed to be the ring last Tuesday while out with her daughter, EmmeMuiz, in Los Angeles. The actress also donned Zimmerman’s ocean vista-print Juliette dress, camel-colored platform heels, and tinted circular sunglasses for the occasion.
